The Ring Guide

Two decisions do most of the work: natural or lab-grown, and where to buy. Get those right and the rest is taste, which you already have.

Natural or lab-grown?

Chemically and optically the same stone. The differences are price, provenance and resale — and how much each of those matters to you two.

Natural suits you if…

  • Rarity and tradition are part of what you are buying
  • Long-term resale or heirloom value matters to you
  • The budget accommodates roughly 2–4× the price per carat

Lab-grown suits you if…

  • You want the biggest, best-cut stone your budget allows
  • Traceable origin matters more than geological age
  • You would rather put the difference toward the honeymoon — or the story website
The only non-negotiable: certification. Whatever you choose, buy a stone graded by an independent lab (GIA or IGI) and check the certificate number matches the stone. Cut quality affects sparkle more than any other C — prioritize it above carat.
